I mean, it's pretty tough. It's a demanding fitness methodology with some advanced moves and it asks a lot of a body.
That wasn't the issue though. The issue was the gym the Crossfit classes were operating in. It didn't feel right, to me. It felt cliquey and unwelcoming and I didn't fit in there at all.
I persevered a while as the coach, Mike, was ace. He was worth going into that environment for so I did, but to train with him 1-2-1, not to go to class.
Then he went to Kuwait to coach Crossfit for a year and become an ever better coach. I really missed him and his input into my fitness routine.
It took a couple of years, but finally, a good thing happened. A REALLY good thing.
Mike came home and opened a Crossfit/Bootcamp gym called Solv with his girlfriend Charlotte, who's every bit as lovely as he is.
I love what they're doing at Solv - creating a welcoming, friendly, home-from-home environment in which to get your fitness on. It's a beautiful space that feels like somewhere you want to be.
Their philosophy about helping people to improve their health aligns really well with my own. It already feels like a place where I can belong. And that sense of belonging is surprisingly important to us as humans.
I'm now back taking classes - both Crossfit and Bootcamp - with Mike at Solv. They're tough workouts, but he works with each individual participant at their ability and provides a level of care that makes the coach in me happy, as you can see in the photo at the top of the page.
I'm really excited to be a part of this growing community. We share so many of the same values that not only am I a member, but Exuberant and Solv are teaming up going forward. I will be part of the coaching staff and we already have a nutrition seminar lined up (why don't you come along?! 🙂) for April.
That's how much I rate Mike and Charlotte and what they have created.
And that's why I am sharing it with you all! Perhaps you are more of a class-based fitness type (1-2-1 PT is not for everyone!) and LOVE bootcamp, or maybe you've always had a hankering to try Crossfit. If that's you, head over to the Solv website and sign up for either a free Bootcamp taster or the Crossfit On Ramp.
Or just nip in for a chat. They're a very friendly bunch and I know they'd love to see you!
